Gregg Hall to receive award and sit in with The Smokin Bandits Saturday, February 11, 2023 at the La Crosse Winter Roots Festival

La Crosse Winter Roots Festival, brought to you by Klauke Investments & Insurance Services has announced its Deep Roots Award winner for 2023. Gregg Hall was chosen due to his outstanding support and service to LIVE music in La Crosse, WI and the Driftless region.

Gregg Hall has been on the forefront of western Wisconsin’s music scene for decades, playing on dozens of albums, writing and recording hundreds of songs, and performing countless shows from full band to a solo act.

As a member of the Smokin’ Bandits from 2004-13, Gregg will once again join the band for their set at the 2023 La Crosse Winter Roots, performing Saturday, Feb 11th at 5:15 pm in La Crosse Center’s Riverside Ballroom.

“Gregg has been a staple and driving force in the La Crosse Music scene for over a quarter of a century. He has spread his music to numerous areas of the country and his passion and contribution have been an inspiration to everyone in the business.” – stated Christian Staehly, Smokin Bandits guitarist and lead singer. 

Gregg has been a go-to at many area festivals and events. From his programming contributions to Moon Tunes La Crosse, to his Deece Productions tribute shows, and his music festival “Cheech’s Deecefest Family Music Festival” now in its 4th year taking place July 28-30, 2023 at Bluebird Campground. Deecefest will showcase a variety of local and regional bands and musicians with ties from the area.

In the summer of 2023, Gregg Hall will also be celebrating the 10-year anniversary of his band Gregg Hall and the Wrecking Ball. Formed in 2013, the band has recorded three albums including “This, That and the Land” in 2016, “The Mrs. Hippy Sessions, Vol. 1” in 2017 and “True Story” in 2020, and most recently his solo recording, “Echoes from the Treetops” in 2022.

Deecefest Family Music Festival is July 28-30, 2023 at Bluebird Campground.

These events have brought people together for more than two decades. Ever since Cheech was a kid he has had a guitar in his hand and a song to share from his heart. Over the years he’s shared bills with Jackson Browne, Todd Snider, Bill Miller, Little Feat, Dave Simonett, Shooter Jennings, and Trampled by Turtles.

Gregg will be joining the packed line up of Ryan Necci & The Buffalo Gospel, Chicken Wire Empire w/ Chris Castino, The Remainders , The Smokin Bandits w/ Gregg Hall, Phoenix, Knee-High July, and The Lavender Project at the 2023 Winter Roots Festival.

The weekend will kick off with a Special *Friday Night Winter Roots “Ice Breaker” event at The Main, featuring the music of Nobody’s Dope. Friday’s event is included with a Saturday EARLY ENTRY Ticket or $5 at the door.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit The Hunger Task Force of La Crosse, which will be hosting various fundraising activities during the event. An Artist and Makers Market featuring 20+ artists will also be taking place from 12-6pm which is free and all ages
