Summer in the La Crosse area is the perfect time to enjoy the sweet, simple joy of berry picking. From juicy strawberries to plump blueberries, local farms offer a fun and flavorful way to connect with the season, and your food. Whether you’re stocking up for homemade jam or just looking for a family-friendly outing, these pick-your-own spots are ripe for the picking. The Berry Market offers a charming pick-your-own experience during scheduled times throughout the season if possible, but be sure to call ahead or check their social media for upcoming pick times. Typically, The Berry Market has strawberries June – July and blueberries July – August. If pick times aren’t available, we still highly suggest popping in to their market to snag their fresh strawberries, and afterwards you can treat yourself to a creamy cone from nearby David’s Ice Cream!

Bluehouse Blueberries typically opens in July for you-pick blueberries, and will post their open hours on their social media page throughout the season. Bring your own bucket or use one of theirs, and if you’d rather, you can buy pre-picked berries instead. It’s a lovely place to stock up on sweet, sun-ripened blueberries.

Visitors can stroll through the fields and fill their pails with fresh blueberries, with the season typically beginning in July. With multiple blueberry varieties available, you’ll have plenty to enjoy fresh, freeze for later, or turn into homemade jams and treats. At Blue Fruit Farm, you’re sure to find something a little different from the typical berry patch! Blue Fruit Farm grows a unique variety of berries, from aronia and black currants to blueberries, elderberries, and honeyberries. No appointment needed to pick berries on Saturdays throughout the harvest season, but make sure to call ahead for an appointment during the week! Kathan’s Homestead Berries | 3610 North Pine Creek Road, La Crescent

 

At Kathan’s Homestead Berries, you can enjoy the late-season raspberry harvest, with raspberries typically ready to pick around Labor Day and throughout September. It’s a great spot to celebrate the end of summer! Be sure to check their Facebook page for when they are open for raspberry picking.

Jolivette Family Farms lets you get hands-on in their strawberry patch during the harvest season, typically throughout June. Make sure to call or check their Facebook page first to find out when picking is available. It’s a wonderful spot for a family outing and to get a taste of farm-fresh strawberries!

 


 

Cain’s Orchard | W13885 Cain Road, Hixton

If you’re up for a short drive (about an hour from La Crosse), Cain’s Orchard is worth the trip with 20 acres of you-pick blueberries. The season typically starts in mid-July and runs through August (but depends on Mother Nature’s timing, of course). If you’re searching later in the season, they typically offer you-pick apples and grapes, too. The farm also offers food trucks, a nature trail, and a giant 40-foot slide, making it a perfect day-trip destination for the whole family.
