Ice Fishing

Situated along the Mississippi River, La Crosse boasts an abundance of prime fishing spots, from backwaters to quiet bays and channels. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or a beginner, the area provides ample opportunities to reel in species like panfish, walleye, bass, and northern pike. With the right gear and a little patience, ice fishing in La Crosse makes for a great activity!

Where to go:

  • Goose Island – Multiple access points in these backwaters! Great for panfish and pike.
  • Lake Onalaska – The backwaters of the Mississippi created this fisherman’s haven! Popular access points include Mosey’s Landing, Fred Funk Landing, and Nelson Park. Great for perch and bass.
  • Lawrence Lake – Across the river from La Crosse, this backwater lake is a popular spot for ice fishing, known for species such as bluegill and crappie.

If you’re looking for some more guidance with ice fishing, consider booking an ice fishing trip with a local company like McCormick’s River Guide Service, River Bent Outfitters, or Adrenaline Angling Guide Service.

And before you go out, make sure to refresh on your ice safety!
