Indoor Skating Opportunities

Omni Center

Location: 255 Riders Club Road, Onalaska

Open Skate Hours: Sundays, November – February | 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

Ice skating at the Omni Center in Onalaska offers a fun and family-friendly experience just minutes from La Crosse. There are theme nights for skating too, like Neon and Cosmic Skating – perfect for creating lasting memories! Admission to skate is $5, and there are also $5 skate rentals (if needed).


La Crescent Community Arena

Location: 520 South 14th Street, La Crescent

Open Skate Hours: Hours are subject to change, so make sure to check the most up-to-date open skate days/hours at the La Crescent Youth Hockey Association website or the La Crescent Community Arena Facebook page.

The La Crescent Community Ice Arena provides a welcoming space for ice skating enthusiasts of all ages, offering open skate sessions and supporting local activities that bring the community together!


Sparta Hockey Rink

Location: 1121 East Montgomery Street, Sparta

Open Skate Hours: A few Saturdays per month in the winter season. View up-to-date public open skate dates here!

The Sparta Hockey Rink offers open skating for just $5, making it an affordable and enjoyable way for families and friends to connect and embrace the winter season.


Bud King Ice Arena

Location: 670 East Front Street, Winona

Open Skate Hours: Check the Winona Area Hockey Association’s website for the most up-to-date skate times.

The Bud King Ice Arena in Winona, Minnesota, offers both indoor and outdoor ice skating facilities overlooking the Mississippi River. With public skating sessions from November through March, it’s an ideal venue for family outings, youth groups, and community events. Admission is $3 for a day pass or $30 for a seasonal membership. The Ice Arena also offers $2 skate rentals!


Green Island Ice Arena

Location: 2312 7th Street South, La Crosse

Open Skate Hours: Sundays, December 12 – March 15 |  5:00 PM – 6:45 PM

Green Island Ice Arena in La Crosse offers a fun and affordable skating experience with admission at $5 and skate rentals for an additional $5. The arena is also home to a youth figure skating program, providing a fantastic opportunity for kids to learn and develop their skills on the ice.


Outdoor Skating Opportunities

Outdoor skating rinks will depend on the weather for opening dates and are subject to closure due to weather and ice conditions, so be sure to check all of the websites for the most up-to-date information!

Riverside Park – Chad Erickson Memorial Ice Rink

Poage Park

Location: 507 Hood Street, La Crosse

Open Skate Hours: School Days, 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM | Non-School Days, 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM

The outdoor skating rink at Poage Park is a perfect spot for enjoying winter fun with family and friends. With free skate rentals and skate helpers available, it’s an accessible and welcoming way to embrace the season in La Crosse.


Copeland Park Oktoberfest Shelter

Location: 1130 Copeland Park Drive, La Crosse

Open Skate Hours: Available Mondays – Sundays, but is closed on Thursday nights as it is reserved for the Broomball League from 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM

The Copeland Park outdoor ice rink provides a delightful open-air setting for skating with a view of the water. It’s also available to rent for special events! If interested in renting, contact the City of La Crosse Parks and Rec for more info at 608-789-7533.


Deer Wood Park Rink

Location: 500 Anderson Street, Holmen

Open Skating Hours: Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 8 AM – 6 PM | Wednesday & Friday 8 AM – 10 PM | Saturday & Sunday 1 PM – 10 PM

Open Hockey Hours: Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 6 PM – 10 PM | Saturday & Sunday 8 AM – 1 PM

The Deer Wood Park Rink is an outdoor rink, equipped with lights for endless skating fun – day or night – during the normal park hours! A quick note – during open skate hours, skaters have priority (no hockey pucks or sticks, please!)..meaning no hockey should be played when non-hockey skaters are present.


Lake Lodge Recreation Center Ice Rink

Location: 113 Lake Park Drive, Winona

Open Skating Hours: Daily 8 AM – 9 PM

The Lake Lodge Recreation Center offers affordable annual memberships that include access to broomball, skate and snowshoe rentals, winter games, and more while skating on the lake is free for everyone!
