Governor’s Award Reception for Dark La Crosse Stories | Capella Performing Arts Center

The La Crosse Public Library (LPL) is proud to announce it is the 2025 recipient of the Governor’s Archives Award for Archival Innovation presented by the Wisconsin Historical Records Advisory Board and the Wisconsin Historical Society.

Please come and celebrate with us as our staff recognize the many people who have contributed to Dark La Crosse through the years. This reception is open to the public and will feature the presentation of the award and the debut of a new episode of the video series Dark La Crosse Stories.

Bar service will be available from 6:30-7:30pm.

What is Dark La Crosse?

Dark La Crosse Stories is a video series and podcast highlighting the unique social and cultural history of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Dark La Crosse Stories is an engaging and informative program that has successfully developed new ways to demonstrate the relevance of historical records for understanding the past, reaching new audiences in the process. Some of the recent episodes specifically noted in the award recognition for their compelling storytelling and use of primary source materials include “The Greenfield Burning,” “Drowned and Missing,” “The Invasion,” “The Last Night of the Old Wagon Bridge,” “1875 Circus Storm,” and “The Funeral Home Fight.”
