Wildflowers and Watercolor Workshop | Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife & Fish Refuge

August 29 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am
FREE workshop (open to adults & youth ages 8+, adult must accompany youth)
Let’s explore the beauty of late summer wildflowers at the prairie! This interactive workshop offers a chance to learn about native wildflowers and prairie grasses, while connecting with nature through your own expressive watercolor painting.
Guided writing and art prompts will be provided. No art experience necessary, just a desire to create, and connect with nature. All art materials provided for watercolor painting and you will take your artwork home.
Meet inside the Refuge Visitor Center to visit the gift store and interpretive displays. Expect a leisurely walk of less than a mile on paved and gravel trails at the Refuge. Dress for the weather. Bring a foldup chair, or be prepared to sit on the ground or a few benches are available. Bathroom and water available inside.
Workshop leader: Dr. Jan Wellik, UW-La Crosse Environmental Studies instructor and founder of Eco Expressions nature art program for youth and adults since 2004. She is the author of the Nature Writing Field Guide for Teachers and Embodied Nature: Poetry Collection.
