Local Author Talk with Sona Kazemi | Pearl Street Books

Join us in-store for an evening with local author Sona Kazemi as she discusses her new book, Disabling Relations. Through research, storytelling, and critical analysis, Kazemi explores how disability intersects with war, state violence, and resistance in post-revolutionary Iran.
Disabling Relations focuses on the disabled dissidents who were incarcerated and tortured by the Islamic regime in the aftermath of the 1979 revolution in Iran, the disabled veterans and civilians wounded during and after the Iran–Iraq War, the disabled survivors of state-sanctioned punitive limb amputation, and the disabled women survivors of acid attacks as a form of gender-based violence.
This powerful conversation will examine the lasting human consequences of political violence and center the voices of those whose experiences are too often overlooked. A Q&A will follow the discussion, and copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.
This event is free and open to all. We hope you’ll join us.
