BioBlitz Series – Beautiful Birds | The Nature Place

The The Nature Place BioBlitz Series kicks off on May 2 from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM with a special focus on the birds found right in our own backyard. Join Environmental Educator Sophia Sperduto for an interactive session exploring bird species common to our region. Using a hands-on collection of bird specimens and visual learning tools, participants will discover how birds use their bodies in remarkable ways, learn about the incredible journey of spring migration, and find out which species to watch for in the coming weeks.
This program launches our seasonal BioBlitz Series, a community science effort to record as many species as possible within a designated place and time. Throughout the series, The Nature Place will collaborate with partners including the Viterbo University Biology Department, the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse Biology Department, Mississippi Valley Conservancy, and the City of La Crosse Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department as part of the Driftless Area BioBlitz (DABB).
Participants will contribute observations using iNaturalist, a global community science platform created by the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society. Through the iNaturalist app or website, community members can document and share biodiversity observations, helping scientists and nature enthusiasts better understand the species that call the Driftless Area home.
The Driftless Area BioBlitz is a free, annual opportunity for families, students, and nature lovers of all ages to explore the outdoors, discover local wildlife, and contribute to real scientific research. These events are for ages 14+.
