Local Author Talk with Melina Packer: Feminism In The Wild | Pearl Street Books
March 27 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Join us in-store to meet local author and UWL Professor Melina Packer, who will discuss her new book Feminism in the Wild: How Human Biases Shape Our Understanding of Animal Behavior. In this groundbreaking work, Packer and co-author Ambika Kamath challenge how biases like sexism, racism, and ableism have shaped the science of animal behavior. They offer fresh, inclusive perspectives based on feminist, antiracist, and queer theories, aiming to break free from oppressive scientific traditions.
Packer will also discuss her book Toxic Sexual Politics, the first feminist and antiracist critique of toxicology. Drawing on in-depth research, she reveals how toxicology’s origins in alignment with the chemical industry have perpetuated environmental injustices. Packer argues for a reimagining of toxicology through queer, feminist, and anti-racist lenses to confront environmental and reproductive harm.
Don’t miss this thought-provoking evening! Both of her books will be available for purchase, and there will be a Q&A + book signing. Everyone is welcome!
