The University of Wisconsin–La Crosse (UWL) Art Gallery is pleased to announce Meditations on Trees and Stones, a forthcoming exhibition by distinguished artist and UWL faculty member Jennifer Williams, opening Friday, September 12, with a public reception from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the University Gallery, located on the first floor of the Truman T. Lowe Center for the Arts.
A professor at UWL since 1997, Williams holds both a BFA from Indiana University and an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her work—rooted in patterns found in nature, and constructed environments—spans paintings and drawings, exploring form through evocative processes and media.
Meditations on Trees and Stones invites viewers into an immersive contemplation of elemental landscapes. Drawing inspiration from the quiet resilience of natural forms, Williams engages with the subtleties of texture, structure, color and space—crafting works that evoke both reflection and connection. Her layered imagery and rhythmic compositions encourage a deeper, meditative encounter with the natural world.
This exhibition marks a return to themes central to Williams’s artistic voice—landscapes that serve not just as subjects, but as frameworks for merging observation, memory, and abstraction. Her work frequently resides in public and private collections nationwide, and she continues to enrich the art community both as creator and educator.
The UWL Art Gallery, showcasing works by students, faculty, regional, and national artists, serves as a vibrant forum for interdisciplinary dialogue within the arts. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Friday through Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Exhibitions at the UWL Art Gallery are free and open to the public.
Join us for the opening reception to meet the artist and experience this thoughtful exploration of nature’s quiet presence.
