Author Talk with Tamara Dean | Pearl Street Books

May 1 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Join us in-store to meet Minnesota author Tamara Dean and discover her beautifully written new book, Shelter and Storm: At Home in the Driftless. In this reflective and deeply moving work, Dean explores living mindfully with nature during uncertain times.

About the book:
Amid the early twenty-first century’s environmental crises, Tamara Dean sought a way to live lightly on the Earth, leading her to the unique Driftless region of Wisconsin. Untouched by glaciers, with steep hills, deep valleys, and clear, spring-fed streams, the area became her backdrop for confronting the challenges of living sustainably while facing climate change.

In Shelter and Storm, Dean shares her journey through essays filled with urgency, adventure, and personal discovery. From hunting for water to learning survival skills, her experiences reflect the deep connection between humanity and the environment. As she navigates the aftermath of natural disasters and contemplates community resilience, Dean weaves together science, history, and personal storytelling to offer readers a thoughtful perspective on sustainability.

Shelter and Storm is a compelling call to action for anyone concerned about climate change, its far-reaching consequences, or anyone searching for a more sustainable way of life.
