The evening kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with live music from the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra. DESCRIPTION:Join us for The Nunnery and Joe Westerlund//Trever Hagen’s debut concert at the Pump House Regional Arts Center. \nThe Nunnery begins with one voice\, layered upon itself\, becoming a lush soundscape. Sarah Elstran is an independent musician who bridges the gap between bright-eyed pop composition and hands-on atmospheric live layering of voice. Her vocal loops give us the kind of detail and wide multi-octave range that we might come to expect from a marquee pop star\, while her production decisions continually keep us guessing as to what rabbit holes her tracks might fall into next. \nA musical project born from a long-running friendship\, beginning during their Midwestern childhood\, and followed by intermittent distance across regions\, countries and cultures\, Joe Westerlund and Trever Hagen are metamorphosing from their individual solo practices into a comprovisational duo. The sound world these two inhabit pays respect to the lineage of trumpet/ drum combinations found in the jazz and ambient idioms\, while reaching back to the pairing’s advent in ancient battle cries.

This relaxed\, hands- on class is for you! You’ll get an 8″x10″ basswood slab and access to all the tools needed to learn the basics of relief carving. With step-by-step guidance from the instructor\, we will practice the various cutting profiles on the back of the board and then carve your work of art on the front. Bring a sketch to carve or select a design from options avail in class. Kevin’s approachable style and years of experience will make it easy to learn and fun! \nParticipants are welcome to bring their own tools if desired\, but everything for the class is provided. \nThe class begins with an overview of relief carving\, safety in tool usage and quickly moving into direct instruction/ practice with the three gouges. When a comfort level is achieved participants can create their own design or use a variety of designs that the instructor provides.
