This DABB event topic will be Precious Prairies. We will meet experts from Coulee Region Chapter of The Prairie Enthusiasts and Friends of the Blufflands at Stry Prairie in Hixon Forest Park. Please dress in protective layers\, as we’ll be walking through tall grasses and dense forest. \nAll ages and skill levels are welcome to learn\, observe\, and explore with us! We use iNaturalist to identify and upload images to a community science database\, so feel free to download the app in advance. Add your observations to iNaturalist and or to your own personal passport that we provide. Get a sticker and a button and help us add more community scientists to DABB.

SUMMARY:BioBlitz Series - Beautiful Birds | The Nature Place
DESCRIPTION:The The Nature Place BioBlitz Series kicks off on May 2 from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM with a special focus on the birds found right in our own backyard. Join Environmental Educator Sophia Sperduto for an interactive session exploring bird species common to our region. Using a hands-on collection of bird specimens and visual learning tools\, participants will discover how birds use their bodies in remarkable ways\, learn about the incredible journey of spring migration\, and find out which species to watch for in the coming weeks. \nThis program launches our seasonal BioBlitz Series\, a community science effort to record as many species as possible within a designated place and time. Throughout the series\, The Nature Place will collaborate with partners including the Viterbo University Biology Department\, the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse Biology Department\, Mississippi Valley Conservancy\, and the City of La Crosse Parks\, Recreation & Forestry Department as part of the Driftless Area BioBlitz (DABB). \nParticipants will contribute observations using iNaturalist\, a global community science platform created by the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society. Through the iNaturalist app or website\, community members can document and share biodiversity observations\, helping scientists and nature enthusiasts better understand the species that call the Driftless Area home. \nThe Driftless Area BioBlitz is a free\, annual opportunity for families\, students\, and nature lovers of all ages to explore the outdoors\, discover local wildlife\, and contribute to real scientific research. These events are for ages 14+.

DESCRIPTION:Nature Saturday is a free monthly program held at The Nature Place from 9:30–11:30 a.m. on the first Saturday of every month. On May 2nd\, we’ll be celebrating World Migratory Bird Day. The Coulee Region is located within the Mississippi Flyway\, which means we experience peak spring migration in early May. At Nature Saturday\, we’ll have opportunities for participants can learn about the many bird species traveling north through hands-on activities held both indoors and throughout the park grounds. The Nature Place has received grant funding from the Wisconsin Society for Ornithology to host introductory birding experiences aimed at increasing diversity and accessibility within the hobby. \nThis event is open to all ages! We can’t wait to see you there!
