DESCRIPTION:After performances at LarryFest in 2025 and 2026\, Nashville-based bluegrass Americana artist Pat Sheridan plays the Trempealeau Hotel.\nFrom mountaintop farms and horse barns to sold-out stages and recording studios\, Pat Sheridan has had quite the journey as a burgeoning young musician. Pat is a husband\, teacher\, band-leader\, and most recently\, a recording artist successfully releasing his debut album\, Trials & Errors. Inspired by his time as a green and eager musician in western North Carolina\, the album blends classic honky-tonk sounds with bluegrass in an earnest stamp on his home’s musical tradition. The album spans his time organic farming\, touring nationally as a guitar sideman\, marrying his best friend\, and all the “trials and mostly errors” along the way.\nIn 2025\, Pat started Uptown Appalachia\, a popular western NC bluegrass wedding band with his wife\, Claire\, and producer\, Michael Dunham. His live shows are honest and feel more like a family reunion\, where he is often joined by Claire\, Michael\, and his father\, Rob\, on harmonica. After calling the Blue Ridge Mountains home for 10 years\, Pat has made the move to Nashville\, where he is currently writing\, recording\, and touring with the many artists that reside in Music City.\nThe hat will be passed. At Central\, it’s also an opportunity to teach students the value of remembrance and civic responsibility.\n“By understanding the sacrifices made by the courageous men and women who laid down their lives to protect our nation\, we instill in the next generation a profound sense of gratitude\, empathy\, and respect\,” said Central High School Principal Jeff Axness. “Memorial Day education for high school students fosters a deep appreciation for our past and shapes their future as responsible citizens.”\nThis year’s program will feature the Central High School Color Guard and Flag Corps\, with musical performances by the Robed Choir\, Band\, and Chamber Orchestra.\nKeynote speaker Jennifer Schmaltz is a La Crosse native and Central High School alumna who dedicated more than two decades of service to the United States Army Nurse Corps. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Viterbo University\, she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant through the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse in 1994 and began her career as an Army Nurse.\nThroughout her military service\, she held a wide range of leadership roles\, including staff nurse\, nurse manager\, educator\, and multiple Head Nurse positions in both Combat Support Hospitals and Medical Centers. Her career reflects a deep commitment to patient care\, leadership\, and service to others.\nShe retired from active duty in 2018 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.\nCentral’s Memorial Day tradition began in 1923 and continues to be a powerful experience for students and the community alike. “To the best of our knowledge\, this is the nation’s longest-running high school Memorial Day observance\,” said Axness.\nThe School District of La Crosse invites community members to join students and staff for this special event. Together\, we honor the fallen and help pass their legacy on to future generations.

SUMMARY:Community for Christian Meditation | Franciscan Spirituality Center
DESCRIPTION:Meets the first and third Wednesday of each month. \nChristianity has a deep tradition of silent prayer in the form of contemplation or meditation. This community setting will practice Christian meditation in the tradition of John Main\, OSB\, learning to quiet the mind and open our hearts to Divine Presence. If you are new to meditation\, this is a gentle place to start. If you have an established meditation practice\, deepen your practice by sharing it in community. We honor the variety of traditions and streams of meditation practice that you might use. Followers of Thomas Merton will find a home here. \nNote: Freewill offerings will benefit the Franciscan Spirituality Center.\nFacilitator: Robert Lynn\nInvestment: Suggested offering of $3. \nRegistration is not necessary; drop-ins are welcome. \nABOUT THE FACILITATOR:\nRobert Lynn is a graduate of Wartburg Seminary and a lay-ordainee of Ryumonji Monastery. He has studied at Nashotah House and with Santikaro Upasaka. He has been practicing meditation individually and in a variety of group settings for several years.
