SUMMARY:Eelpout | The Commonweal Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Come heck or high water\, it’s time for a bachelor party! Best buds Sven and Ole gather at their pal Lars’s ice-fishing shack on Lake Mille Lacs to celebrate Ole’s upcoming marriage to Lena. But this ice-fishing bromance starts to crack when Sven admits he no longer wants to be Ole’s best man (Ope!). Deep truths\, deeper questions\, and a giant talking eelpout emerge from the frigid surroundings. La Crosse\, WI native Paul Kruse presents a surreal comedy that is a boisterous and beautiful ode to Midwestern masculinity\, friendship\, queerness\, and being a fish out of water.

SUMMARY:The Welkin\, by Lucy Kirkwood | Lowe Center for the Arts
DESCRIPTION:Lucy Kirkwood’s The Welkin is a sweeping\, provocative drama that plunges audiences into an isolated 18th‑century English village where justice\, morality\, and womanhood collide. Set in 1759 rural England\, a young woman\, Sally Poppy\, is convicted of murder and claims she is pregnant to escape execution. A jury of local women is assembled to decide whether she truly carries new life or faces the gallows. What unfolds is a gripping examination of power\, privilege\, and the silenced voices of women\, as each juror’s own history\, hardship\, and belief shapes the verdict. By turns tense\, surprising\, and darkly witty\, The Welkin asks urgent questions about who gets to decide truth\, whose lives are valued\, and how personal experience becomes political. The Welkin asks: What does justice look like when women are finally allowed to speak? And who gets to decide the truth when belief itself becomes a battlefield? \nPerformance Dates\nOctober 16-17 & 23-24 at 7:30 p.m.\nOctober 18 & 25 at 2:00 p.m.\nToland Theatre\, Lowe Center for the Arts\nAssigned Seating.\nContains mature content and themes. \nONLINE TICKETS: $20 adults; $18 senior citizens/non UWL students/military; $8 UWL students. SUMMARY:LIVE MUSIC - BZ3 Organ Trio | Popcorn Tavern
DESCRIPTION:Jazz\, funk\, soul\, and serious groove — BZ3 brings a matinee set with enough fire to make your afternoon plans for you. \nThe BZ3 Organ Trio stands as a high-octane powerhouse that injects a modern\, edgy funk aesthetic into the classic organ trio format. Hailing from the vibrant Minneapolis music scene\, the group features three stalwarts of jazz and soul: fiery Hammond B3 organist Brian Ziemniak\, award-winning guitarist David Feily\, and transcendent drummer Kevin Washington. Together\, they defy simple categorization\, seamlessly fusing jazz\, deep funk\, soul\, and R&B with a commitment to dynamic\, spirited improvisation. Known for their impassioned live performances and a focus on collective chemistry—a “symbiotic whole”—BZ3 has been aptly described as “Two Parts Elegant\, One Part Savage\,” delivering sophisticated musical journeys punctuated by undeniable\, feel-good grooves that honor the legacy of the genre while driving it toward an exciting future.

SUMMARY:The Spitfire Grill | The Commonweal Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Percy\, a troubled young woman on parole\, yearns for a fresh start and heads to the small Wisconsin town of Gilead. She finds work at the dried-up town’s only eatery\, The Spitfire Grill. As Percy discovers her own path to redemption\, she awakens the town’s capacity for healing and hope. With soaring melodies and Midwestern charm\, this folk musical is a celebration of kindness and community. “The country-flavored tunes and lyrics are rendered with the kind of conviction and expertise that make them transcendent. What in normal times would be a joy is\, in these troubled ones\, sheer nourishment.”–New York Magazine

SUMMARY:Viroqua Farmers Market | Western Technical College Viroqua
DESCRIPTION:The Viroqua Farmers Market takes place every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.\, May through October\, at 220 S. Main Street in the Western Technical College parking lot. \nMore than just a place to shop\, the Viroqua Farmers Market is a lively community gathering where residents and visitors connect with local farmers\, Amish artisans\, and neighbors. The welcoming atmosphere makes it easy to strike up a conversation\, learn something new\, or pick up cooking tips directly from the people who grow and make the products you love. \nVisitors will find a wide variety of fresh\, locally produced goods that reflect the agricultural richness of the Driftless Region. Vendors offer seasonal fruits and vegetables\, herbs\, flowers\, plants\, and garden goods\, many of which are organically grown. Because farmers sell their harvest directly to customers\, produce is incredibly fresh — often picked just hours before the market begins. \nIn addition to farm-fresh produce\, the market features an impressive selection of homemade and handcrafted goods\, including baked goods\, cheeses\, honey\, maple syrup\, jams\, preserves\, pickles\, and a diverse array of arts and crafts. Vendors take pride in their work\, often using traditional methods and high-quality ingredients. \nEnsuring access to fresh\, locally grown food is important to the Viroqua Chamber. Many vendors accept SNAP\, WIC\, and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition benefits\, making it easier for more members of our community to enjoy healthy\, local food. \nWe invite you to join us on Saturday mornings and experience the vibrant energy\, fresh flavors\, and strong sense of community that make the Viroqua Farmers Market a favorite throughout Southwest Wisconsin.
